Michael D. Sumler

January 4, 2022

Michael D. Sumler, of Hammond, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, at the age of 64.  He is survived by his loving siblings: Debbie (Bob) Joyce, James “Craig” (Pam) Sumler, Linda “Diane” (Joel) Hanske, Myra Jo (Larry) Patterson, and Niki (Billy) Adkins; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his dear parents, William and Corena (nee Fowler) Sumler; beloved sister, Lisa Sumler; and favorite furry friend, his dog Casper.

Michael graduated from Morton High School, and promptly joined the military.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp.  He was a devoted Chicago Bears fan, and will forever be known for his sense of humor.  Michael enjoyed lazy days in the sun, sitting outside and taking in the world, and snacking – his favorite being vanilla Zingers and pop.  He was never one to turn down pizza, and never came across a pizza he didn’t like.

More than anything else, he will be remembered for the overabundant love he had for his family, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 10, 2022, at 1:00 PM with visiting hours from 10:00 AM until time of service at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville).  Interment Calumet Park Cemetery.  For information, call 219-736-5840.
