Jose Cervantes, 89, of East Chicago, IN passed away Monday, May 16, 2022. Jose was born on July 8, 1932, to Octaviano and Agustina Cervantes in Jamay, Jalisco, Mexico. He immigrated from Mexico in 1953, and worked hard to finally become a U.S. citizen in 1992. He worked at Inland Steel for 36 and a half years. Jose loved to play soccer and spend time with family and friends. He was a Cubs fan, a gardener, and had a great sense of humor.

Jose is survived by his loving wife Blandina; children; David (Crystal), Jose, Alma (Juan), Alejandro (Olga), and Nancy (Anthony); 14 grandchildren: Jason, Meghan, Juan Jr., Jeffrey, Ashley, Vanessa, Luis, Claudia, Adam, Daniel, Andrew, Matthew, Olivia, and Alina, and one great-grandchild: Aubrey, and one on the way, Aria.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft St, Merrillville, IN 46410). Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 10:00 AM Directly at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, (3510 Deodar St, East Chicago, IN 46312).
