Hazel Hughes was called home to the Lord on Saturday, October 23, 2021.  She was 89 years old.

Hazel leaves to cherish her memories; her beloved children: Maria Jones (Maurice Prentice), William Martin, Jeffrey Hughes, and Lawrence (Angela) Hughes; her treasured grandchildren: Chelsea, Dominique, Mya, Zoe, Iesha, Demi, Geoffrey and Garrett; her precious great-grandchildren: Lianie and Marino; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  She his preceded in death by her parents, William and Florence Gough; and her devoted husband, Louis.

Hazel was born in Wrexham, South Wales, and spent much of her younger years living and studying in England.  She met and married Louis while he was stationed in England. Together, the two of them traveled to Germany to live for a number of years while she was working as a dental hygienist. After moving across Germany, she then became a librarian at the high school. Upon retirement, she and Louis came to reside in Merrillville in 1994 where she became an active member of the Red Hat Society.  She was a devout member of the First Baptist Church for many years before relocating to Ohio to be with her daughter.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a cherished friend to all who knew her.  She will be truly missed and fondly remembered.
