Anne Smith

Anna “Anne” Alexandrina Magyar Phillips Smith, age 101, passed away at home on Saturday, July 27, 2019. Anne was born to George and Anna Magyar in Sharon, PA in February of 1918.
Anne leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved daughters: Georgiana P. (John) Stepanek and Margaret C. (Norman) Dawson of Valparaiso, IN; cherished grandchildren: Sydney (Rich) Sipel, Daniel (Cathy) Dawson, Kelly Dawson, Joy Stepanek Reyes, Danielle Reyes, and Amy Stepanek (Gilberto) Briseno; and treasured great-grandchildren: Conner Dawson, Drew Dawson, Gianna Reyes and Neva Reyes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; two brothers; her sister: Virginia Jeter; husbands: Daniel Phillips and George Smith; daughter, Diana Phillips Ham and son-in-law Coy S. Ham; and grand son-in-law: Jose L. Reyes.
Anne was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all.
Funeral services will be Monday, August 5 at 1:00 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville.
Rev. Alin Munteanu officiating. Friends and family are invited to visit from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.

William “Billy” McEllis

William “Billy” McEllis, age 53, of Demotte, IN passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019. He was born on October 25, 1965 in Gary, IN to Frank and Beverly McEllis who preceded him in death.

Billy is survived by his loving daughter, Sabrina (Aaron Meek) McEllis; grandson, Liam Meek; siblings, Frank “Mac” McEllis and Tom (Jeanee) McEllis; many nephews and great-nieces.

Ann Tomlin

Ann Tomlin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 with her family by her side. She is survived by her loving daughter, Carol A. Tomlin; brother, Thomas (Judy) Henik; nephew, Tom Tomlin; great nephews: Derek and Alex Tomlin. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Julia Henik; husband, Jack Tomlin; daughter, Patricia A. Tomlin; siblings: Rudy, Victor, John and Frances Henik and Victoria Tomlin.

William Teel

William L. Teel, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2019. He is survived by his loving children: Karen (Steven) Riggins, Charles (late Donna) Teel, Sr., Mary (late Gary) Andres and Robert (Renee) Teel; grandchildren: Amy, Larissa, Jason, Seth, Charles Jr., Nicholas, Michael and Harrison; great grandchildren: Krysten, Daniel, Sarah, Luke and Grace.

Shawn G. Brehm

Shawn G. Brehm left this world on July 3, 2019. He was surrounded by his wife Denise and their dear friends. Shawn and Denise appreciated your prayers and your presence in spirit and grace during this time.

Shawn is survived by his beloved wife, Denise; Aunts, Becky Parker, Judy Napier, and Jacky Ingalsbe; and many nieces and nephews.

Judith “Judy” Lawrence

Judith Ann “Judy” Lawrence, age 80, passed away June 30, 2019.
Judy was born in August of 1938, and was raised by adopted parents; Roland and Della Eckert. She is a graduate of Calumet High School, class of 1956. After graduation with honors, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, NY., and the her master’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington.
She worked for nearly 30 years as an administrative secretary at the University of Chicago Divinity School until her retirement in 2010.
Judy loved writing, and adored music, and had a special talent for playing wind instruments. She also took great interest in astronomy, and had been a member of the Calumet Park Astrological Society since 1996. During baseball season she could be found cheering for the Cubbies, and enjoyed watching the games with her family.
She is survived by her cousins: Millie Hayden, Dave McPherson and his family, William (Pat) Hayden, Heather (Ed) Hixon and extra special caretaker (and 4th cousin!) Aiden, Ashley Hayden, Billy Hayden, and George O’Neal; and many friends and colleagues.
Per Judy’s wishes, a graveside service is being planned for a later date. Please contact 219-736-5840 for information and updates. In memory of Judy donations in her name can be made to the Dementia Society of America.

Jose Luis Guzman

Jose Luis Guzman, age 65, of Hobart, IN passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019. He was born on November 18, 1953 in San Rafael del Carrizal, Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico to Jose and Florencia Guzman who preceded him in death.

Jose is survived by his loving wife, Maria (nee: Herrera) Guzman; children: Fernando (Maria) Guzman, Rene Guzman, Jose Luis (Jaqueline) Guzman Jr, and Lorena (Brent) Guzman-Schmidt; grandchildren: Joaquin Felipe, Saia Evangeli, Allura Cruz, Enrique Luis, Anthony Rene, Isabella Renee, and Olivia Renee Guzman, Claire Elise, Xavier Thor, and Kenneth Allen Schmidt; siblings: Sara, Teresa, Timeteo, Lucio and Trinidad.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Abel, Andrea, and Griselda Guzman.

Jose loved to travel and explore. He was a proud 40 year Union Carpenter and most importantly a man of faith. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother and will be missed by many.
