Lucy Hogan, age 74, of Portage passed away on May 25, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel P. Hogan; parents, Guy and Ethel Contie; granddaughter Crystal Hogan; siblings, Lulu Lorenzen, Angeline Hoover, Rose Contie, Guy Contie II, and Joseph Contie.
Lucy is survived by her children, Deborah Hogan, Victoria Hogan, Daniel (Suzanne) Hogan, Gina (Greg) Robinson; siblings, Angelo (Janice) Contie, and Susan (Albert) Arnold; many grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Cecelia S. Rodriguez

Cecelia S. Rodriquez, age 84, of Crown Point passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 21, 2021. She is survived by her caring husband of 65 years; Xavier Rodriguez; loving children, Harry (Linda) Rodriguez, Cecelia (Jerry) Stamper, Ramona (Phillip) Archo, Manuel Rodriguez, Eloise Rodriguez, Mary (Richard) Rodriguez; 22 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren, and many great- great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and extended family and close friends.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Manulea Espinosa.
She was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church. She enjoyed gardening and even grew her own Christmas trees. Cecelia had a green thumb to say the least. She also enjoyed playing board games and cards with her loved ones. She was also a chocolate lover. She will be so deeply missed, and her memories will be forever etched in our hearts.

Javier Ortiz, age 38, of Lake Station passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Mendez; Son, Xavier Ortiz; mother, Nereida Ortiz; siblings, Freddie (Luz) Ortiz, Connie Ortiz-Reyes; very dear friend, Thomas Gaboian; mother and father-in-law, Annette and Louie Mendez; brother- in- law, Wesley (Angela) Mendez; sister-in-law, Stephanie Mendez; nephew, Tyler; nieces, Selena, Anissa, Sophia, Selestina and Audriana; great nephew, Landon; and his fur baby, Scrappy.
Javier was preceded in death by his father, Freddie Ortiz.
Javier’s love and passion was barbering. His wife was his everything. He had a big heart and would do anything for anybody. He was known for his big bear hugs. He is going to be missed tremendously.

Salvador G. Zepeda
Salvador Galvez Zepeda, age 60, of Porter passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Salvador was employed at US Steel as a Systems Repairman. He left behind his loving wife of 24 years, Leticia Zepeda; siblings, Luis (Angelica), Josephina (Nicolas), Maria (Luis), Amalia (Raul), Alexandro (Leticia), Cecilia (Alexandro), David (Vicky); and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Preceded in death by his parents Luis and Maria Zepeda; uncles Franciscan-Alexandro Galvez Zepeda, Priest-Salvador Galvez Zepeda, Leopoldo Galvez Zepeda; and brother-in-law, Francisco J. Chavez.
Salvador was a generous man and was known for always giving to the less fortunate. He loved to donate to the poor children, charities and was very giving to his family and loved ones. He enjoyed working with computers. He liked to take them apart and rebuild them or find out what was not running correctly and fix them. He also loved building and wood working. He will be missed by so many that knew him. He will be in our memories and in our heart’s forever.

Garland L. Tanner
Garland Tanner, age 85, of Lake Station, passed away on April 30, 2021. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Ida Mae; son, John, 3 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; several siblings and other relatives.
Garland is survived by his children, Carl, SueAnn, Mary Lou, Loren, and Larry; siblings, Juanita, Rebekah, Stella, Georgetta, David, and Tommy; several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He retired from US Steel and he just enjoyed drinking his coffee and socializing with just about anyone he crossed paths with. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and we will cherish our memories of him for a lifetime.

Eugene Bobby Louthan
Eugene Louthan, age 86, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021. Eugene proudly served for the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Eugene had a passion for fixing tractors and snowmobiles.
Eugene is survived by his children: Kevin (Kimberly) Louthan, Greg (Tina) Louthan and Mitchell (Janet) Louthan; grandchildren: Jon, Amber Lee, Cameron, Brooke, Kiley, Ariana, Olivia, Kaydence and Kaitlynn.

Anthony “Tony” Bowman
Anthony “Tony” Bowman, age 32, of Lake Station, passed away on April 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry “JJ” James Jr.; grandparents, Barbara Bowman and Marilyn James; and aunt Kathy Timm.
Tony is survived by his mother, Kim “Little Kim” Bowman, step sons, Nicholas and Ky Renslow; siblings, Erica Bowman, Drake James, Christopher James, and Lisa James; girlfriend, Rosie Castilleja; nephews, Myles Selfelder and Giovanni Thrasher; niece, Murphy James; and several nieces nephews, relatives, and close friends.
Tony enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding dirt bikes. He truly loved his dog, Caneman. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him and his memories will forever be etched in our hearts. Tony will never be forgotten. This is until we meet again.

Danny Garibay, age 59, of Portage passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021 with his family by his side.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Debbie; children, Susana (Joe Feliciano) Garibay and Michael “Rocky” (Mary) Garibay; grandchildren, Vic Neville Garibay and Lincoln Arlo Garibay; mother and step-father, Gloria and Larry White; step-grandchildren, Elly and Bannon; siblings Pete (Leoda) Soria Jr., Gary Soria, Penny ( Dave ) Moore, Nina Soria, and Cynthia (Joe) Rodriguez; step siblings, Lorna (Pete) Fotinos and Russell (Kari) White; Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will dearly miss him.

Danny started his youth as an active young boy in Gary, Indiana. You would find him frequently playing baseball with the neighboring kids. In high school he developed a love for carpentry which would become his future career. Later he joined the Marines for a faithful four years where he learned discipline and camaraderie. He took that discipline and applied it to the gym where he went to at least six days a week. He loved Chicago sports teams with the Cubs being his number one favorite. He had a passion for fixing up classic cars and taking them to car shows, earning many trophies. He was best known from his 4th of July celebrations. He would bring family and friends to his home and put on a firework show that some would say rivaled even the big time shows. Most of all, he loved spending quality time with his grandson Vic (papa coco). Above all, he was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.

Heaven has gained another angel. On March 11, 2021 Bruno was called home to be with our Heavenly Father. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, funeral director, professional ball buster and friend. An amazing man who loved his family fiercely. He never met a stranger and made everyone his friend, even if they just met. His loyalty and love can not be measured. There is no way of truly knowing how many lives Bruno has touched in his 58 years on this Earth, but we do know he will never be forgotten. He was so many things to so many people. His memory will forever live on in those who loved him. He is survived by his best friend, soulmate and wife Roberta, loving children Taylor (Patrick), Tess (fiancé Kodiak) and Cory, cherished granddaughter Bailey, dear sister Lisa (Leonard), sweet Aunt Jeri, loyal mother-in-law Cheryl Jean, the mother of his children and friend Sandra Lee, loving “clowns” (his brothers and sisters in-laws), countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. GWENDOLYN JEAN CLAPP (JOHNSTON)
December 19, 1941 – February 20, 2021
Gwendolyn Jean Clapp, age 79, of Portage, went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday,
February 20, 2021, where she was reunited with her beloved husband and soulmate, Dale V. Clapp. She
was preceded in death by her parents; Burton and Hannah; stepfather, Arthur Crisman, and best friend,
Gwen graduated from Gary Emerson High School. She went on to become a beautician and was
employed at Mary’s Beauty Salon in Portage, Indiana for over 25 years. Gwen was a member of
Augustana Lutheran Church where she married the love of her life on December 17, 1960.
Gwen battled heart failure and many other health issues bravely and gallantly over the past 30 years.
She fought tirelessly and was determined to remain independent at home with her two best friends, her
dogs, Rowdy and Roxie.
Gwen bowled and golfed in leagues for many years. She was an avid animal lover who donated to many
different animal organizations. She loved traveling and enjoyed spending time in Florida. She loved
being with her children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed and looked forward to attending the
many sporting events, musical concerts, and any other activities her children and grandchildren were
involved in. Her family was her life.
She is survived by her three children; Dale (Lynn) Clapp, Tammy (Tim) Pivarnik, and Douglas Clapp. Six
grandchildren; Dale (Rebecca) Clapp, Kelly (Scott) Hutchins, Tara Villarreal, Jakob Clapp, Keighly Clapp,
and Cara (Cory) Grinnell. Two great-grandchildren; Alan and Adam Moore, and Betty Widelski, a very
special cousin who was like a sister to her.
Gwen touched the hearts of so many people and she will be deeply missed. She leaves behind
memories that will be forever etched in our hearts.
Family and Friends are invited to visit with the immediate family on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from
5PM until the time of the service at 7PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (370 N. County Line Rd. Hobart,
IN) with Pastor Charles Strietelmeier officiating.
