Buenaventura “Rico” Rivera-Ortiz, age 98, of Hobart, IN, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2021. He is survived by his loving son, Edwin (Amelia) Rivera; stepson, Orlando (Flora) Martinez; dear grandchildren: Eric Rivera, Amanda Rivera, Selena Rivera and Sheena Rivera; cherished great grandchildren: Mariah, Veda and Mateo; sister, Maria Ferrer. Rico was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Preceded in death by his loving wife, Monica Rivera (Renta); son, Ariel (Suzane)Rivera; daughter, Yolanda Macias and several brothers and sisters.

Rico retired from Inland Steel after 32 years working on track maintenance. After retirement, he spent 30 golden years in Florida with his beautiful wife Monica. While living in Florida, Rico cherished the moments he spent fishing with his brother Dominic. Rico and Monica moved back home to spend the rest of their time with family. Rico enjoyed gardening and going to car shows with his son Edwin.

Rico will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Rendina Funeral Home (5100 Cleveland Street, Gary, IN) with a chapel service beginning at 6:30 P.M. Rev. Lou Pasala officiating. Interment will take place on Monday, October 11, 2021. Friends and family are asked to meet at Rendina Funeral home at 11:00 a.m. to line up for procession to Calumet Park Cemetery for 11:30 a.m. burial. Please call 219-980-1141 for information.
