Desiree Lynn Hansen

Desiree Lynn Hansen, age 59, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Desiree could always be found with a smile on her face near water, in the sand or under the sun. She enjoyed boating, spending a day at the beach and traveling to Mexico. A day of shopping was always welcomed, too. Desiree was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of The American Legion Post 502, The Marquette Yacht Club in Portage, and The Izaak Walton In Portage.

Desiree was preceded in death by her grandparents- Joseph and Esther Richmond and Basil and Lillian Fernandez.

She is survived by her loving husband George Hansen; parents, Patsy Meskow, Bob (Kathy) Fernandez; siblings Joseph (Toni) Fernandez, Diane (Kevin) McAndrew, Renee (Dino) Bernardi, and Eric (Janet) Fernandez; many caring in-laws; several nieces and nephews and supportive extended family and dear friends.

Desiree will be deeply missed by all that knew her and her memories will forever be etched in our hearts.

Jerry Bogash

Jerry Bogash, age 80, of Gary, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Jerry enjoyed fishing, working on cars and spending time outside doing his gardening. He cherished his family and loved spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his dear wife- Pamela; parents- John Sr. and Anna Bogash; and brother- John Bogash Jr.

He is survived by his loving children- Karen (Buddy) Sheldon, Michael (Jenni) Bogash, Tabatha (Theotis) Eskridge; Siblings- Arthur (Ruth) Bogash, Grover Bogash, George Bogash, Richard Bogash, Joanne (Ronald) Atteberry, Darlene (Randy) Bickers; grandchildren- Joey Niesz, Rayshell Eskridge, Theotis Eskridge Jr., James Eskridge, John Eskridge, Tyler Bogash, Derek Roe, Gabriella Bogash, Wyatt Bogash, and Cayson Bogash; great-grandchildren-Haleyiana Eskridge, Rosey Eskridge, Daisey Eskridge, Isreal Harris, Isaiah Hampton, and Za’Niyah Flowers; several nieces and nephews and many special loved ones.

John J. Solar

John J. Solar, age 93, of Dyer, IN passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2020. He was born in Manistique, MI on February 4th, 1927 to the late George and Mary Solar. Preceded in death by his loving wife Connie (Comerford) Solar, son John Thomas, Brother George, sisters Mary and Rose.

He is survived by his sons Ed, Jim, David and daughters Diana, Beth (Michael) Redden, Dorothy (Greg) Johnson.

He was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grand children, and many nieces and nephews which he referred to all as “Grandpas Little Bugs”.

John served in the Army in the Communication Brigade in the Korean War on the Russian border. Employed by Standard Oil and Inland Steel. A proud member of the American Legion, Astronomy Club, Coin Club, and Experimental Aircraft Association. EAA, Oshkosh Airshow is where over 30 years he took up to 4 generations of family camping to watch the airshow and showed us his love of flying by getting his pilots license on his 75th Birthday. Attending church at Saint Maria Goretti, singing in the church choir, hiking, biking, electronics, fixing cars, helping anyone who needed anything, and of course Solar energy were just a few of his many interests in life.

John J. Solar always ended his goodbyes with, God Bless. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 from 11:00am -1:00pm with a service at 1:00pm at CALUMET PARK FUNERAL CHAPEL 7535 Taft Street. Merrillville, IN 46410. Christino Garza Jr.

Christino “Tino” Garza Jr., age 62, of Gary, passed away on August 24, 2020. He is survived by his brothers- Alberto Garza, Alfonso (Gris) Garza, and Edwardo (Ani) Garza; nieces- Esmeralda Garza- Meza and Veronica Garza and nephew- Josue Garza. He was preceded in death by his father- Christino Garza Sr.; mother- Leonora Martinez; and brother- Ricardo Garza.

Christino (Tino) Garza Jr. was born and raised in Gary, IN. Born a special needs child. Tino spent his days by his mother Leornora’s side. As he got older, he developed an interest in arts and craft. He skillfully built bird houses out of popsicles sticks, completed color by number portraits, and loved completing puzzles. Later in life he moved into a group home where he had two wonderful roommates and attended The Tender Love Day Program. He participated in Bowling Special Olympics and found a new interest in making jewelry. Tino’s family enjoyed having him over every holiday. He loved to joke around. Especially to his brothers and brother-in- laws about being short and bald, although he was the shortest and bald himself. He will be missed, and his memory will be treasured always.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 10:00 A.M – 12:00 P.M with a funeral service at 12:00 P.M. Fr Frank Torres officiating. Internment at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Robert R. Highlan

Robert R. Highlan, age 40, of Valparaiso, passed away on July 28, 2020. Bob had a passion for motorcycles and loved working on them along with riding them. He loved watching movies and TV, especially the history channel and learning about World War II.

Bob is survived by his two sons- Cody and Jared Highlan; mother- Lisa Highlan and father Carl Highlan; siblings- Derek (Chloe) Highlan and Carrie (Chris) Highlan; Grandmothers- Colleen Moehl and Helga Highlan; very close friends- Russ Krueger and Jay Hanndck.

He is preceded in death by his two grandfathers- Raymond Moehl and Gordon Highlan.

Bob will be deeply missed by all that loved him. His memories will be forever etched in our hearts.

Bobby Ray Beals

Bobby Ray Beals, age 70, of Valparaiso, passed away surrounded by his loving children, on Friday, June 26, 2020. Bobby was a member of the support group AA for over 20 years and took pride in running the meetings for the group members. He enjoyed going to Real Life Community Church of the Nazarene in Portage with his son Mathew, he also was an avid bowler and loved fishing. One of the many hobbies he had was taking his corvette out for a drive, especially if it was to go to one of his grandchildren’s activities. He was very active in their lives and loved to be called the Grandpa Taxi.

Bobby was survived by his three loving children- Mathew Beals, Timothy (Mary) Beals, and Bobby Beals; brother- Larry (Mary) Beals; grandchildren- Nathan Beals, Brandon Beals, and Logan Beals; and was expecting his first grand-daughter (still in the womb).

He was preceded in death by his parents- Jerry and Hazel (nee Cardwell) Beals.

Bobby will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. His Memories will be forever etched in our hearts.

Friends are invited to visit with the family for a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (370 N. County Line Rd. Marilyn “Patsy” Christmas

Marilyn Patsy “Pat” Lorraine Christmas (nee Bauswell), age 83, of Portage, was born on April 5, 1937, to Clarence and Hazel Bauswell (nee Hartley). Pat was an avid reader, the family historian, an animal lover, and was an active member of her local senior center. Pat is survived by her children: David “Dave” McCosh (Cheryl Bryant), Stephanie (Michael) Hedgepath, and Lee Christmas; daughter-in-law Roseann Ivanovich; grandchildren: Santos “Tinker” Hedgepath, Heather Ivanovich (Todd Paglialong), David “Dave” (Shanon) McCosh, Jr., Tyler Hedgepath, Charlotte Ivanovich (Jonathan) Willoughby, Stephanie Ivanovich, and Christina Ivanovich; great-grandchildren: Kylie Lynn Christmas, Brooke Lee Christmas, Lyric Ava Paglialong, Logan Alexander Hedgepath, Norah May Ivanovich, Stevie K. Willoughby, Irene R. Willoughby, Mia McCosh and Maci McCosh.

She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Bauswell and Hazel Bauswell, her son Steven Edward Ivanovich, and her great-granddaughter Telia Helene Paglialong. Pat’s family was blessed to have her for the past 83 years. She will be greatly missed and memories of her will be sketched in our hearts forever.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 12:00 – 3:00 P.M. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (370 N. County Line Rd. Hobart IN) with a funeral service at 3:00 P.M. Father Douglas Mayer officiating.
