Violet Karriman, of Portage, passed away on May 1, 2019 at the age of 89.
She is survived by her devoted daughter: Cynthia Wilson; her loving grandchildren: Heather (Nick) Dagostaro and Christopher Wilson; treasured great-grandchildren: Colin Platt, Austin and Sophie Wilson, and Dominic and Jayden Dagostaro; precious great-great-grandchildren: Paisley and Grayson; her dear sister, Mildred McKay; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband William, and cherished grandson, Ryan Wilson.
Violet will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside committal service is planned for Friday, May 3, 2019 at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Family and friends are invited to line-up at 1:00 PM Calumet Park Hobart Portage Chapel (370 North County Line Road, Hobart) in order to process to the cemetery. Paul Alan Reeder
Reverend Paul Alan Reeder passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019. Paul was preceded in death by his mother Mae Belle (Meyer) Reeder, father Harold Reeder, sister Ellen Reeder, and brother Wayne Reeder. He is survived by his wife Fumiko (Tanaka) Reeder, two daughters Joy Mentzel and Sara Whitacre, grandchildren Robert Mentzel, Julian Mentzel, and Hannah Whitacre, brother Charles Reeder, sister-in-law Jane Reeder, niece Amy Reeder, and nephews Alan and David Reeder.
Reeder was born on July 20, 1945 in Gary, Indiana to Harold and Mae Belle Reeder. He was raised on his parents’ dairy farm in Crown Point, Indiana and attended Crown Point High School. He attended Indiana University (Bloomington), and then served in the Air Force for four years in Libya, Spain, and Dayton, Ohio. After an honorable discharge, Paul attended Toccoa Falls College, where he met Fumiko (Tanaka). After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts in Missiology, Magna Cum Laude, Paul and Fumiko married and moved to Kobe, Japan, where they were missionaries. Upon moving back to the United States, Paul attended Grace Seminary, where he received his Master’s in Divinity and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Reeder was a pastor at Bell Center Bible Church in Burnettsville, Indiana (‘93-’99); Corinth Brethren Church in Twelve Mile, Indiana (‘99-’03); and Oakville Brethren Church in Oakville, Indiana (‘03-’13).
Upon his retirement, Paul and Fumiko moved to Maryland to be closer to family. Paul took classes at the University of Maryland College Park, where he excelled in Latin, Greek and Roman culture courses. Paul volunteered as a hospice chaplain and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Cheryl Ann Opalko, a life-long resident of Gary, passed away at her home on April 17 at the age of 68.
Cheryl is survived by her devoted brothers: Albert and Lenny Opalko; her loving sister: Sue (late Ariel) Rivera; many beloved nieces and extended family; and, of course, her many dear pet companions.
Kyle Isaiah Baldwin 28, Hammond, IN departed this life on April 15, 2019 in Pensacola, FL. Kyle was a kind hearted soul that we loved dearly and will deeply miss. Kyle loved playing baseball and had a passion for music where he entertained us with his gift of rap.
Michele M. Morigi-Cabrera, of Merrillville, passed away peacefully at her home on March 26, 2019 at the age of 60. She is survived by her adoring husband of 30 years, Daniel Cabrera; and her two loving sons: Michael and Jacob; and many dear friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents: Dante and Mary Morigi.
