Hey, I’m Moses Escalante, aka “Che”, and life has been good to me for a bunch of reasons:
I have been blessed to have had a strong and loving mother: Perfecta (deceased), and lucky to have married Ana (deceased) - the most amazing woman that came into my life…my world changed forever on
the day that I met her.
I’m grateful to have had two amazing children: Michael “Number One Son” and Theresa “Queen Elizabeth” (Dave) as well as two grandchildren: Amelia and Isaac, my ”Banditos”.
Fortunate to have been touched by the following people: My Dad, Baltazar, who has made his transition along with my brothers: James and Louie (Sharon). The others are still here on earth, my brothers:
Joshua (Michele); Raymond (Brenda) and Benjamin (Tawana). My sisters: Nelida (Juan) and Bertha (Victor). Mother-in-law: Georgina Martinez “Big Momma”, my Brother & Sister-in-law: Johnny and
Georgina Martinez, and my numerous nieces and nephews.
I graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary; served my country with the US Marine Corps and retired from US Steel-Gary Works, after taking care of business there for over 30 plus years. Some
people hated the job, but I loved to roll up my sleeves and get it done, no matter what the job called for, or how dirty it was.
I tried to make the most of the time I was given, enjoying my life to the fullest, as much as I could. What can I say? That was enough to make me happy. It wouldn't have been out of the ordinary for you to catch me cruisin’ in my car, windows down and my music blaring, as I drove from house to house visiting friends and family to check in on them. Family always came first for me and if they ever needed me, I prided myself on always being there for them, no matter what was asked. And yeah, I could be a bit “rough around the edges” at times…but I hope they know how much I loved them, even if I didn't always say or show it.
I now leave with a smile on my face knowing that I wasn't perfect but I did the best that I could, and I hope that you try to do the best that you can.
I was a lucky man to have the life that I did, so I thank everyone who made it what it was.
See ya’ later. Bye-bye to the bye-bye…I’m gone.
Ana, Honey Bunny, I’m coming home.
