Mary Jane Bell (Janie Haire) was born November 7, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio to Mary V. Haire. She departed this life on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
She is survived by her son, Joey (Louise) Haire, Matteson, Il; her grandchildren, Jakoi (Adrianna) Haire; Grand Rapids, MI, Jaketia (Jawon,Sr.) Neal; Virginia Beach, VA, great-grandchildren, Jakoi, Jr, Ceciilia, and Kylon Haire, and Jawon Neal Jr.; Bonus grandchildren; Davon, Dajohn, Darrien, Diamond, Darja, Dessarea and Denise Jackson. siblings, Sebronella Howard-Davis; Matteson, Il. Pastor Cheryl (George) Clemes, Hobart, IN, and Michael (Wanda) Howard, Virginia Beach, VA. She also had several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Later in her life she developed special relationships with her cousin Robert Jordon and Tiffany Duncan as well as her niece Ronda Payne, great-niece Chloe’ Bartnicki and a loving CNA Deja who helped with her physical, and financial care. As well as her spiritual son David Brock and her best friend Cherie Metcalfe. Mary touched so many lives that it would take many pages to name them all.
Mary began her musical career as a child along with her sister Sandra, under the leadership of her Aunt Florence Haire Williams. She became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the late Dr. Rev.W.E. Ellis. She later became a member of Church of Our Lord under the late Rev. Wrinnie Bennett. She was also a member of Progressive Baptist Church under Rev. James Childs. She married and moved to Atlanta Georgia and became a member of Green Forest Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. George MaCalep. She developed some great friendships during her time in Atlanta, GA.
Mary was employed by Heath/Zenith St Joseph, Mi and Atlanta, for over 30 years. She later was employed by Dekalb County for over 20 years.
After retiring from Dekalb County she moved to the Illinois area to be closer to family. She became a member of Word of Life CFI under the leadership of Pastor Cheryl A. Clemes where she was ordained as an honorary deaconess and remained a member until the time of her death.
In her younger years she was a member of the Vocal Aires Gospel Singer for more than 25 years. The Bennett Aires Gospel Singers, The Sounds Unlimited, under the direction of Rev. Jerry Lott, Southwestern Michigan Mass Choir of the Gospel the Gospel Music Workshop of America where the late Rev. James Cleveland was the founder. Mary was an awesome teacher and choir director which was one of the many things that she loved to do.
Mary, or Janie as she was so lovingly known as, was loved by so many and will be truly missed by all that knew her. May her memories be forever etched in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, mother Mary V. .Howard, sister Sandra Johnson, brothers-in-law King Johnson and Willie Davis,
a special cousin Stephanie Duncan and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
