Michael was born in Gary Indiana after his parents Michael and Mary had immigrated here from Slovakia. He then grew up attending Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Michael graduated from Froebel High in 1950 and went on to trade school in 1952 graduating from Valpo Tech with a degree in radio technology. From there he enlisted in the Army and went on to proudly serve his country as a radio engineer from 1953-1955. Two years later he met the love of his life thru the CYA Diocesan Sheil Club and they married in 1959. Michael was employed by the US Sheet and Tin Mill for over 40 years before retiring in 1996. During this time he also worked with longtime friends, the Rendina brothers-Tony, Vince, Rome and Phil- at their funeral home for almost 40 years. Michael was a founding and longtime member of St Stephen The Martyr Church. He was heavily involved in the building of the church alongside Father Lawrence Heeg and other parishioners. Before and after retirement Michael enjoyed traveling to Hawaii as well as up to the family retreat in Copper Harbor, Michigan. He made many friends over the years, befriending strangers with a shared story of growing up in Gary, love of the Catholic faith or bragging about his family. Michael loved spending time with his children but adored time with his 6 grandchildren more than anything. Of all the roles he had in life Papa was his favorite. Whether vacations to California or Michigan, watching Cal Ripken youth baseball or just laughing and playing on the floor, Papa made everyone feel special and loved. Michael will forever be missed as a devoted husband, adoring father and cherished Papa.
