Mr. Daryl Victor Johnson was born on December 13, 1950 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Johnny Lee Johnson and Johnny Kate Pollard. He confessed Christ at an early age, but rededicated his life to Christ in 2010, and joined Embassies of Christ Church where he served on various committees.
Daryl received his education from East Chicago Washington High School. He continued his education in the United States Marine Corp. Daryl obtained additional certifications from South Surburban College and JobLink, where he studied many trades, such as construction, welding and plumbing, just to name a few.
Daryl served in the United States Marine Corp from July 1970 to December 1974. Daryl continued his involvement with other Veterans by participating in numerous activities in the community. Daryl was a volunteer Fireman for the Town of Merrillville, worked with the American Red Cross, and was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. Daryl loved helping those in need.
Daryl was extremely proud at the birth of his children Daralice, Daryl Jr. and Terry D. Johnson.
Daryl was joined in holy matrimony to Terri Lewis on September 28, 1985, and to this union one child was born; a daughter Tara Sade Johnson. Daryl and Terri shared 35 lovely years together, enjoying life and traveling around the world.
Daryl found his passion working in the steel industry. He worked as a Mechanic/Welder in 2BOF. He loved working in the mill and often worked overtime. He retired in 2009 from ArcelorMittal (Inland Steel) after 38 years of dedicated service.
Daryl departed this life on August 20, 2020 at Methodist Hospital Southwest Campus, Merrillville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny Lee Johnson and Johnnie Kate (S.B.) Powell, brothers Robert, Terry, Lester, Charles and sister Phyllis Johnson, maternal grandfather Gene Pollard and maternal grandmother Nancy Pollard.
Daryl leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Terri, and four children, Daralice Johnson of Indianapolis, Daryl Johnson, Jr. of Lafayette, Terry D. Johnson of East Chicago and Tara Sade Johnson of Merrillville. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Davonte, Brandi, Capri, Jordan, Ethan, Sanaa, Terry, Ricky, Jaylie, and Cameron and 5 great-grandchildren, Zechariah, Hope, Faith, Elijah and Kasen.
Also surviving are brothers, Vernal (Clairetha) Thornton, Keith Powell, Karl (Marsha) Powell, and Willie (Sherita) Powell, sisters, Nancy Johnson, Jacqueline Powell, Sharon Johnson, Kimberly Powell, Emma (Tony) Hines and Reba (Carlos) Johnson; Larry Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson and Tyrone Johnson. In Laws Robert and Sandra Hoggs, sister-in-laws Kimberly (Jeffrey) Julkes, Shawna Lewis and brother-in-laws Rodney and Joseph Lewis, and a host of Nieces and Nephews. Special friends William Marshall, Gregory Airington, Eddie Smith and the Inland Steel Retirees Breakfast Club, and a host of relatives and friends.
