Menka Gulaboff

Menka Gulaboff, 90, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020. Menka was born on March 17, 1930 in Lavci, Macedonia, the daughter of Dime and Boica Nicolich. She and her family immigrated to the United States when she was 10 years old in June 1940, in the midst of World War II. In fact, they were on one of the last ships permitted to sail from Europe due to the War. They settled in Battle Creek, MI where she graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1949. Menka married her beloved husband Nick Gulaboff on January 24, 1954 and moved to Gary, IN. Nick and Menka were one of the Founding Members of Saints Peter and Paul Macedonian Orthodox Church. Menka was a very active member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary for many years and served in many capacities, including Vice President and Sunday School teacher. Menka was a homemaker and worked about 40 years of her life in retail for Sears, Roebuck and Co., L.S. Ayres, and Macy's in Merrillville, IN. Nick and Menka were happily married for 53 years until Nick’s death on March 17, 2007. She was a devoted wife and selfless mother to Leni, their pride and joy. Menka was very loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She was a very kind, humble, and gentle soul who had an enormous amount of love and gratitude in her heart for everyone in her life.

Menka is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Leni and Tome Stojcevski; grandchildren: Christina Laskovski (Jovan) and Alexander Stojcevski (Maria); great-grandchildren: Christopher, Elena, Nikola, Alexander, and Ana; brother: John Nicolich (Milica); Sisters-in-law: Tomka Nicolich and Loretta Popyk (Raymond); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Baba Menka will be very missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought an enormous amount of joy to her life.

Menka was preceded in death by her parents: Dime and Boica Nicolich; brother: the Honorable Judge Paul Nicolich; sister: Luba Ilich (Mito); in-laws: George and Mara Gulaboff.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at Saints Peter & Paul Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral on Friday, June 19, 2020. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 12 PM, followed by funeral services at 12 PM. Fr Georgij Gligorov & Fr Aleksandar Mitrov will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Saints Peter & Paul Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral’s Fresco Project in Memory of Menka Gulaboff.
