Catherine Mary Doreen (Warner) Goodman

January 8th, 2020

Catherine Mary Doreen (Warner) Goodman of Hobart, Indiana, passed away on January 8, 2020. She was born on August 11, 1949 in Gary Indiana to Charles and Rosalie (Bianco) Warner. She married her high school sweetheart Dean Goodman on February 7, 1970.

Catherine was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and Chairwoman of the Voice of Democracy 1st District for 10 years.

She was active in all aspects of her children’s life from PTO, girl scout leader, diehard softball mom, and volunteered with son at Deep River Park.

She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for almost 10 years, taught catechism, and was a member of the school bus driver bowling league (although no way she was able to drive a school bus).

Catherine was a beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother, caring sister and aunt. She was a second mother to anyone in need of a mother’s affection.

She became a caretaker to many, a rock to her large, amazing family, and loved by all who knew her. She entertained the masses on Facebook, curated the most beautiful of gardens, a professional waffle cutter, and the most entertaining of slot machine winners.

Family was everything to her. Catherine always believed that family is where life begins and love never ends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Rosalie Warner. She is survived by her husband Dean, son James, daughter Deanna and grandson Andrew; loving sisters Jackie & Josephine and brother James (Gail) Warner.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews Mike & Tori Rivera (Aleah, Anthony, Elizabeth), Ben and Kelly Rivera (Kaitlyn and Isabella), and Jennifer and Bill Trowbridge (Lucas, Vincent, Charlie, Max) and her honorary parents and next-door neighbors Omar and Faye Guess.

Visitation will be held 3-7 on Friday January 10th at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St, Merrillville, IN. A second visitation and mass will be held at 10am on Saturday January 11th at St. Andrew’s Church, 801 W 73rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN.
