Alfonso “Poncho” Ruano, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
Alfonso leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 50 years; Maria Concha Ruano; children, Jose Alfonso (Rachael) Ruano of Cynthiana, KY, Sandra (Mario) Ruano of Mokena, IL, Jorge (Juany) Ruano of Schererville, IN and Gabriel (Jennifer) Ruano of Crown Point, IN; grandchildren, Arissa, Joel, Fox, Madeline, Gabriel Andres, Lesley and Emily; siblings, Chelo (Polo) Rangel of Gary, IN, Amparo (Abel, dec.) Berumen of California, Luis (Connie) Hernandez of California, Lupe (Alberto) Sepulveda of Chicago, IL, Andrea (Jose) Araujo of Crown Point, IN and Manuel (Janine) Hernandez of Hammond, IN and many nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to name.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Refugio Ruano and Maria Hernandez, sister, Mona Valdez, brother, Javier Hernandez and niece Peggy Valdez.
Alfonso retired with over 30 years of service with IHB Railroad. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be fondly remembered by all.
A bilingual memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2:00pm at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville with Rev. Roque Meraz officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.
