Larry D. Wright

April 28th, 2019

Larry D. Wright, age 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at VNA in Valparaiso, IN.  He was born June 19, 1943 in Long Beach, California to Robert J. Wright and step-mother Marguerite at Magnolia Hospital.  Larry graduated from George Rogers Clark High School in Hammond, IN.  Shortly after high school he joined the Army where he would be sent to Vietnam as a door gunner for the Razorback Armed Helicopters.  Honorably discharged carrying the Purple Heart Medal, Larry would come back to Indiana where he would make a career as a long haul truck driver.

He is preceded in death by his father Robert J. Wright, step-mother Marguerite Wright, brother Robert Wright, aunt Mary Ruth Olsen, and his two sons’ Larry and Todd.  Survived by his loving fiancé, Peggy Eagen of Chesterton, IN, daughter Jenna (Jeremy) Neuschafer of Valparaiso, IN, son Robert W. Wright of Chesterton, IN, daughter Kimberly R. Olsen, Peggy’s children, Michelle (Warren) Smith of LaPorte, IN and son, Craig Woosley of Chesterton, IN, grandchildren Alyssa Armato and Colin Neuschafer of Valparaiso, IN, half-brother Daryl Wright of Oregon, step-brother and step-sister David Nixon and Elzena Huff of Oregon.

Larry was so many things to so many people.  He was a soldier and committed to his country.  There is nothing he liked to do more than to talk about his Razorback brothers and eventually about his time in Vietnam.  He was a caring father and grandfather.  He was a friend to many.  His infectious laugh to his colorful stories would draw you in wanting to hear more and leave you gasping for air from laughter.  He was not only tough as nails but had a softer side that could be seen in his connection with family, friends, and his love of animals.  Louie the Lab, Baby Baby, Gunner, Little Bit, Patches, and Boots are sure to miss their dad.
