Edward Oloyede


Edward “Eddie” Olasupo Oloyede of Merrillville, IN passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

He was born in Iresi, Nigeria to Chief Moses and Serah Oloyede. Edward is survived by his wife, Luciana Oloyede; children, Akinola (Marilyn) Laleye, Akintunde Laleye, Akinyemi (Jennifer) Laleye, Akinyinka Laleye, and Abiodun (Johnny) Myles; grandchildren, Andre, Adam, Andrew, Abram, Akinyemi Jr., and Alycia; brothers, Edward (Janet) Olusegun Oloyede, Remi (Pastor Amos) Boboye, and Jide (Lucy) Ponnle; nephews and nieces, Dr. Tayo Oloyede, Deolu Oloyede, Ayodele Adelugba, Deola Adelugba, Kemi Babatunde, Segun Adelugba, Doyin Adelugba, Tosin Adelugba, Ayomide Oloyede, Folake Oloyede, Daniel Oloyede, Adenike Oloyede, Yetunde Ponnle, Wale Ponnle, Tobi Ponnle, and Jumoke Ponnle, .  He was preceded by, parents, Chief Moses and Serah Oloyede; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Edward attended Baptist Primary School at Iresi and Akirun Grammar School at Ikirun in Nigeria. He played soccer, track, discus, javelin, and long tennis in high school and college. He worked for the Government Press at Ibadan in Ibadan, Nigeria and was a choir master at Oritamefa Baptist Church in Ibadan.  Edward came to the United States and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture from the University of Oregon, his master’s in public administration and another Masters in Urban Transportation Planning from Seattle University.

In 1983, Edward returned to Nigeria and served with the National Youth Service Corp and was a professor of Architecture at ABU Zaria in Zaria, Nigeria. While serving at the National Youth Service Corp., he received 3 awards: National Youth Service Corp. Award, Plateau State Governors Award, and National Award from the President of Nigeria.

Edward returned to Indiana in 1987, becoming the Deputy Director of Planning for the City of Gary; working there from 1988-2001. He served as the Vice President of Yoruba People’s Congress in Chicago, and as past President of the International Institute in Gary, IN.

Edward was a Deacon at Grace Baptist Church in Gary. He loved reading the Bible, listening to music and spending time with his family. He will be sorely missed. Service of Songs/Wake keeping will be held at 4pm to 8pm on Friday April 26th, 2019 at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN with Pastor Bishop officiating. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Saturday, April 27th, 2019 at Calumet Park FuneralChapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN with Pastor F. Cornelius Ogundele officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel with a Time of Sharing at 5:00 PM. Interment Calumet Park Cemetery.
